The Resident Evil I grew up with and loved is now dead. Everyone knew it, but I was just waiting for them to actually admit it, well maybe I find a new video game franchise to like.

I really don't see why people start noticing this now, the series as it was back then died on 2005.

It evolved, either for the good or bad it's up for debate.

They seem more concerned with what Call of Duty fans want from the series than what actual Resident Evil fans want.

Because that's where the money is, obviously.

The series has enough room for horror and action. It just needs someone who can actually handle both and doesn't focus too much on one or the other.

Well, just because the survival-horror market seems to be in decline, doesn't mean they have to decimate any plans to still make such games.

If they want to branch out, let them. As long as completely action or FPS-centric gameplay does not intervene in the kind of horror games that I want to enjoy, then I'll be fine with it. If they decide that trying to bait COA fans away from a series that they will continue to play no matter what else comes out that tries to mimic it, is more important than sticking to the roots, I'll have to bid adieu.

Revelations was kind of a hybrid, if not a little more like the games before 4 and 5, and it seemed to sell well, no? They should continue that formula then, and not make any rash decisions yet.

Ever since Resident Evil 4, you could tell they were starting to move away from survival horror into what best makes them money. As it so happens, action games like Call Of Duty are taking in the most sales. But for how long? I can't wait to see the next big game genre. So Capcom can watch the success of others and want in on that too. "Action games? Puuulease. (Insert game genre here) is where it's at! :) "

Oh well. We had a good time while it lasted. But it looks like the divorce papers are finally official after so long. Survival horror gets to keep the kids. Sorry Capcom.

The series is still story driven in the main titles and they still have the same cheesy B-movie plots, is just the gameplay that changed.

Wow... geez, happy 16th Aniversary Biohazard... here have some shitty news about us now deciding to actually ignore about 10 years of the franchise :p

I'll just repeat what I've said elsewhere. People at Capcom need to stop constantly comparing their products to Call of Duty. Capcom itself needs to stop trying to be a big fish in the big pond on this. They should be happy to be the biggest fish in the small pond and start nailing good solid games in all sorts of genres with smaller budgets that can sell 2 to 4 million units and be happy about it. Sell several of these over a year and you're actually doing better than the publisher who has one tentpole in a year selling 10 million units total in it's lifetime.

The bigger issue to me, and something thats become apparent looking at the [mostly] negative comment about ORC is that the other impact of aiming for action and trying for the CoD crowd is that a) they'll probably fail at that, and b) then alienate what audience they already have and the sales will drop even more. Seems ever so short focused.

Capcom got burned a lot on the later half of the last gen. Horror games they did make didn't do very well (Clock Tower 3, Haunting Ground) and obviously RE4 with it's more action oriented gameplay led the way on sales. But they're missing the point of doing something good. What people at Capcom should be saying is "We were pioneers in horror gaming, we recognise that it is a strength and alongside making some action titles we think the market wants we will also dominate the horror gaming area and be a success in everything." Seems like such a better mentality to have than "We want sales like Call of Duty by making games only for people who like action like in Call of Duty."

It's always one or the other. They could keep the survival horror aspect for the story mode and save all the mindless shooting and multiplayer for Mercenaries. I am truly disturbed that they want to cater to all the trigger happy gamers rather than stay true to the source material.
