Ah, it really felt like it. I really hope Capcom continues with the orchestrated music, because RE5 and DSC really proved how effective it could be.

The music in CVX felt more orchestrated than the music of previous games, though, although I couldn't tell you why. Perhaps because it used more (synthesized) classical instruments? I recall there being a lot of string and piano parts, as well as far fewer ambient tracks than those in previous games. RE2 had a lot of this as well, but I think CVX's music had a darker, creepier classical vibe (as opposed to RE2's more film score sound). That Ashford lullaby gives me goosebumps every time. And although it's not technically from CVX, the Steve battle theme from Darkside Chronicles (the track is called Sorrow) is perhaps one of the darkest and most classically-themed pieces in the series. And that is orchestrated.

*sigh* I wish all the RE music was orchestrated. And yes, that Biohazard Orchestra album is amazing. I particularly enjoy HUNK's theme and the RE2 save theme.

Better sound chip, that's all. Moving forward, current gen hardware allows for the orchestral tracks to remain intact.

Should note that not all of the tracks in RE5 or DSC are orchestrated, and DSC's were modified due to hardware limitations. Still, it sounded pretty good as did the Onimusha 1 soundtrack which was IIRC fully orchestrated then synthesized.

Do you know which ones from RE5 were? I seem to recall that several boss battles had orchestrated themes (including the last two Wesker fights), but as for the others I don't remember.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while DSC had plenty of ambient tracks that definitely weren't orchestrated, I seem to recall the majority of the upbeat tracks were (particularly in the CV section).

Yeah, the boss fights, the ending and most if not all of the cutscenes. The synthesized tracks are pretty obvious, like the assembly.

I honestly don't remember much of DSC to comment, since I've only seen it being played on a TV with iffy speakers. It's possible that they're modified like Onimusha 1.. not entirely synthesized, but downsampled to fit basically.

I liked code veronica a lot more. Of the classic RE games 3 has always been the worst IMO, though it still isn't bad at all.

RE3 for me hands down. Code Veronica was pretty boring and marked the beginning of the slump.

I know I'm late, but great post cvx. Almost made me want to change my check mark, almost. You already know I can go either way in this regard.

This isn't Florida!!! I'm reserving my vote for now until I actually get the time to finish CVX. (yeah yeah I know, put the rotten tomatoes down. I have a short attention span sometimes.)
