Thought this would be an interesting topic to touch on. Are there any actual plot holes or inconsistencies in the series storyline these days? We have pretty much dis-proven virtually every single one that has been passed around for years. I want to see if there is actually something still lingering that needs to be looked at more closely.

Level design doesn't count.

Why did Spencer invited Wesker to his castle? was he really that naive?

I think this was already discussed but I really don't know what's the deal with the whole multiple missiles from Outbreak.

Spencer was dying. Maybe he thought he could win over Wesker in hopes of using his blood to sustain or prolong his own life? Maybe he just wanted it all to end?

Outbreak is very loosely based on canon in some ways. Like the many missiles destroying Raccoon City for instance. It got the destruction part right, just took a different approach. Maybe even more realistic to how the Government would ensure there are no traces of the virus left?

Theories.

Yeah, it's basically outbreak vs. RE3 as well as some other noteworthy things... In Degeneration for instance, one of the news reporters mentioned that the government launched "a" missile at Raccoon city. Another reporter also mentions "a" missile, as in singular.

I think Spencer was planning his death personally, he had to have an ulterior motive for having Patrick give the information out. He wanted Wesker to find everything out, and Im fairly sure that he knew how Wesker was going to react(or did he really expect Albert to be his loyal "son" with the kind of history he had?).

Maybe Spencer was hoping Alex would finally come through with his development on immortality; or decided that it was his time to pass and he was giving up(because Alex disappeared), therefore planned his death accordingly. Perhaps in telling him about Project Wesker, Spencer would hope that Albert would continue his legacy or intended plan for a superior race.

Spencer was dying. Bringing back Albert was the last throw of the dice of a desperate man. He no doubt wanted him to replace Alex but as usual, Wesker took over the plan for himself.

The canon for Raccoon City is one missile. Not nuclear but a Thermobaric missile.

Wouldn't this make Outbreak non-canon because it contradicts other games?

One little non-canon aspect doesn't make an entire game non-canon, just that little bomb detail.

He invited him because he wanted to reveal his plan to Wesker. With Alex gone, he knew he had no hope of surviving and becoming a "God". But he didn't want his plan to die with him, so he wanted Albert to continue it. Whether or not he knew Wesker would shove his fist through his chest is unknown, but he probably didn't care, since he was "facing his own mortality".

The multi-missile ending of Outbreak will always be an issue until we can get an interview with the director or one of the writers. However, I like to entertain the notion that it was simply because most nouns have no plural form in Japanese.

I believe a file in Umbrella Chronicles states one missile also.

The serious has loads of plotholes/inconsistencies still. Revelations is a mess when you eventually reach the end of the game and all the twists are finally revealed, looking back a lot of things do not add up. RE5s events leading up to it and when it officially takes place do not add up with several pieces of information, still lots of things from the early 2000s when Capcom couldn't decide what they were doing with RE4 and the series future, some of it still does not fit yet they go and reacknowledge it in books like Archives 1 and 2 like they are trying to purposely throw a spanner in the works. The Outbreak games are generally a mess.

You can look at this series purely from a game POV or include additional material, additional material fixes some things from a game only POV but then just makes new problems instead. Either way a mess in the details and Capcom do not seem interested in fixing it.
