Looks great. Cant wait for it. Since I got on board with Demon Souls and subsequently Dark Souls, even though they are frustrating as all hell sometimes, they are truly great games. It's true that the sense of reward is great after being thrashed a few times and figuring out a good strategy that works.

Sounds very similar to King's Field II and Ancient City, my favorite titles in the series still. I'll definitely go in on this one.

If you haven't already played it I suggest Dark Souls 1, Yama. Game is nearly a masterpiece in my eyes.

I'm hyped as all hell for this, but I'm also worried about the direction the new devs will be taking it in. I don't want the story to be more straightforward and easier to understand, as has been stated. One of the most interesting aspects of the first two Souls games, Dark Souls especially, is that the narrative is completely open to interpretation. I very much enjoy piecing the story together through bits of dialogue and item descriptions and forming my own conclusions based on the evidence presented. Even in Demon's Souls, where the story is a bit more straightforward, there is no clear-cut conclusion to be drawn from the game. It's up to the player. I still can't decide whether I think Solaire is Gwyn's firstborn, or if taking out Maiden Astraea was the right thing to do. It's that kind of tasteful ambiguity that draws me in to the story.

That said, the environments look absolutely fantastic. It seems to strike a good balance between the dark, medieval setting of Demon's Souls and the more fantastical Lordran. The gameplay so far looks almost exactly the same as Dark Souls, which I'm completely fine with, although I did kind of hope they would take it back to the faster pace of Demon's Souls. Swinging anything larger than a toothpick is so sluggish in Dark Souls.
