Recognition? Yes, but objectively it's definitely not GOTY material overall. It's a niche game that's also an acquired taste.

I really wanted to like that game but even the best misfire sometimes.

Regardless, a handful of deserving categories aside, it's standard joke affair for the event. Shitty hosts to boot. I'm still wondering who the fuck decided that Olivia Munn is hot or any good as what she does.. enough to go on the Daily Show no less.

That's so true.

Action games aren't niche nor an acquired taste, imo.

Watched VGA last night. Awesome reveals, like the ps3 exclusive Uncharted 3.

One reveal dissapointed me.
Kratos in MORTAL Freakin' KOMBAT.

What. The. Hell.
Didn't Soul Calibur already do this, or is it manditory for all fighting games to feature the God of War as a cameo? (Look out Street Fighter!!)
I'd prefer MK better if it hadn't featured Kratos in it cast, but I'll have to deal with it. Who knows, maybe he has the best special move out there..?

Why? kratos being there doesnt affect the game at all.

Didn't mean the action genre, just Bayonetta based on the commercial reception. Shipping 1 million worldwide across two SKU's and selling through even less fits the mold. Katamari sold more per game and it was niche.

It's really not bad when a series that made a name for excessive violence features an asshole like Kratos. MK has a ton of bad characters. Franchise-wise, it may have a degenerative effect like SC (everything after SCII needed a guest seemingly to ship), but MK has been through worse by just being MK after 1996's MKT.

They could make too much of a powerhouse to not even help the game, or make him too weak to appease fans.
Also, it looks like another game to spread his popularity in. I had enough Kratos in GOW3.

Nothing would annoy me more than fighting for my soul while Kratos babbles on about getting his revenge against the gods.

But, like I said, I'll just deal with it. I'm just hating on Kratos because hes going where he doesn't neccessarily belong, one of my favorite game franchises....

If Devil May Cry and God of War aren't Niche, then Bayonetta certainly isn't. It's got all the same stuff and the deepest fighting system around, so no idea what you could mean. *shrug*

The overall presentation, the story, the audio. I mean, it is the lowest selling action game this gen. and PS3 port aside, quality wasn't an issue (and ironically that was the better selling SKU). Deepest? Didn't exactly do much over DMC3, however it was a mishmash of NG and DMC styles. DMC mechanics and AI and heftier move set like NG (though NGII/NGS2 had more variety).

Bayonetta was niche action for all the wrong reasons. It tried too hard to be a good thing. It was deep and flashy and fast, and I think that's great for hardcore action gamers, but it put most gamers, the average people, off itself quite quickly.

There was issues with the character - people were put off by her resemblance to Palin, regardless of if you believe it or not. The story was also not as straight forward (read: as simple) as other titles, which while seems like a great idea because we all seem like more complex stories, sometimes however an easy and interesting story start to get people through the beginning and deeper into the game. I think it made people put down the game because it was not an easy game to get into in both game play and story. I call that the Metal Gear effect.

I credit Kamiya for trying it, but while it has a small and loyal fanbase, it's sales show it was ultimately a failed experiment. And personally thats why I think we've heard little talk of any awards for it, VGA or others.

Kratos in MK - Character fits the world, but I still think it's silly. But after seeing Star Wars characters in Soul Calibur which I think is a worse fit, I don't think I care that much. Hell, I'm not that sure if I really care all that much about MK these days unlike I did in the early-to-mid 90's.

Also, if you haven't seen it on the PSN - behind the scenes of the Uncharted 3 Teaser Launch at Naughty Dog; has a few shots that did not make it into the trailer and some hints via mo-cap of other stuff in the game:

Respectfully, I don't think you've played enough Bayonetta. Of all the action games out there it features the biggest movelist with the most combos and the biggest diversity in weapons, it also features cancels, combos that can be put on hold and combos that can be strong into magic, as well as gear that affects weapon stats and two ways to avoid damage (dodge and guard as separate concepts) As for NG 2 having more variety all I can say is buwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?! Were we playing different games?

Rombie the game is good, and accessible, if a person wanted to get in depth with it they could if not theres a one button mode. The average person really has no reason to just put it down since the depth was only there if a person chose to actually use it. Turn the difficulty down, pow average gamer is at the same level as a pro.

As for the story, its a freaking action game, most reviewers bash it for not having enough depth (BTW wheres GOW's story in comparison) and GOW fans bash it for having too much depth. Skip every cutscene you'll know the same amount about whats going on. "theres angels, kill them".
