I got the Castlevania demo off the UK PSN, and wow, what a gorgeous game. CV purists will likely not like it, but hot damn. I haven't seen such visual fidelity in a third party game yet, and it controls very well even though it's the E3 demo.

Shame that Capcom didn't go after Mercury Stream and went with... uh, you know who.

The demo didn't impress me, no doubt the game is graphically gorgeous but it looks just another God of War clone to me, not to mention the awful dodge system... if u want to rip off a game, at least do it right.

Yeah i have to agree. I know we went through this with that EA God Of War knockoff a few months back, but it's literally the same thing all over again.

^ Yeah but thats pre-bias you've just thrown in there about trying to be something else just because Dante's Inferno sucked monkey nuts when it tried.

Inferno controlled sloppy when it was was trying to be GOW; that Castlevania title, excluding the dodge - I do agree about that, actually plays well which makes all the difference. I personally don't care as much when someone copies parts of other games to make them actually playable you know - the bigger problem is like re: inferno, when they don't. Also as SG said, the visuals of the thing are terrific, which again helps.

At the end of the day too, should I complain about the God Of War series because of the inspiration they took from Capcom's work on Devil May Cry? No, I shouldn't.

Sadly while Castlevania's combat is generally good, but from all accounts the final games exploration control, pace and focus is where the game really lets you down. And even though I liked parts of the demo, I really couldn't see myself buying the game - rental, borrow; sure. But not a purchase.

Hey, Im a huge CV purist but I loved the demo and everything about it; Voice acting, Art, Travel book, Combat.
I have the CE paid off and can't wait til tuesday.

I was sold on it not even all the way through the Kojima directed TGS trailer.

Pre-bias? Give it a rest.

Out of the whole (boring) hack and slash genre, God Of War stands out for me by a mile. All i see in the genre (admittedly, not looking too deeply at it) is second rate clones, and i just likened the situation similar to that of when the Dante's Inferno demo was released.

I really could not care less for whoever invented the genre, who perfected the genre, who's trying to change the genre.

^ Likening the situation without trying the demo.. hmm. Well Stu, sounds like you posted something for the sake of posting. Sounds familiar?

I didn't get the GOW clone feel unlike that atrocious Dante's Inferno. All I saw were CV staples done properly in 3D, which were done in Lament of Innocence too. Excluding some pseudo QTE, which GOW didn't introduce originally. Reviews have been great so far too, average 85%.

I mean, GOW itself was nothing original and clearly ripped off a lot of elements from other games. CV's rage of combat and platforming were two of them, and now everything is doomed to be compared as a clone

If I had anything to nitpick, it's the music. Pressing a button to dodge felt better than the right stick mechanic too.

I'm sold. Now I just need to gather a few impulse BD purchases to trade..

An assumption since you didn't mention anything specific that you didn't like. So you "win".

I didn't mention anything i didn't like, because it was all just a repeat of what i'd said at the time of the Dante's Inferno demo.

Fun how we've come full circle now.
