Ditto, its basically the same theory but better executed (considering its 4 years after the release I'd be surprised if it weren't) then the Wii.

The games absolutely suck and theres not much coming out thats not a shooter or very casual. Theres a lot of potential but not much of a practical use. Also its worth mentioning that its actually easier to play the sword game in wii sports resort then galdiator.

Well, it's official now:

MK Arcade HD collection pre-order is up. Someone is claiming that it will be a XBLA release only on the 360.

Atelier Rorona is a week away, definitely supporting the localized version as should any other RPG fan. First shipments are all L.E.'s too, good deal.

I saw that reported again on Kotaku showing that it'll be supporting 3D as well, crazy as that seems (plus a 3D PS2 Prince Of Persia Trilogy) and it'll include a demo of the upcoming MK title.

I'm thinking that the MK9 demo will be in 3D, but not the 2D games. Incidentally, Boon is apparently in LA right now, so that may erase any doubts that this is compilation is a HD overhaul.

Keeping the original sprites as an option a la SSFIIT HDR would be nice though, just for authenticity.

^ Valid point re: 3D, unlike PoP it was just a logo in the bottom. Who knows till they say more.

Would be nice about the sprites, but unlike the drawings which they were able to remaster I'm not so sure about the original images used for games. We'll see as well I guess.

SSFIIT HDR (God f****** damn it Capcom with the long titles) had the original sprites too. Thing is, that game was well crafted and headed by a prominent competitive SF player, MK..... has probably 20 of them worldwide, and most are grade A assholes :p

The problem with re-done sprites is the changes that come with them unless they're careful. Different hit boxes or additional frames can change a game. The most notable example is the arcade Tekken TT vs PS2; they're essentially different games beyond the obvious graphical differences. SC on DC on the other hand was faithful gameplay wise to a tee.

They're got a countdown set btw:

http://www.trmk.org/news/13209/changes_ ... bsite.html

I'm guessing this collection will be officially announced among other MK9 related announcements.

I don't think you'll ever be able to talk to me about the PS2 version of TTT without me remembering how horrifically bad that PAL port was :p

The only way an HD version of the originals could have been done is if they had access to the original materials and they didn't look silly in a HD format. I guess they did, and that's why it sounds like they're have no choice but going to remaking them instead. But you're right, they have to be careful to replace the existing material exact and not end up tweaking it - but yet when they're redeveloping a SE collection with that much change, you get the feeling some tweaking will be done regardless in gameplay.

Maybe it'll be worth looking at these as the "Star Wars Special Editions" of the original MK trilogy. :p
