People literally are like, "I wouldn't be comfortable playing game X because there are cutesy girls/no males/is too anime. I'd be embarrassed and my friends would make fun of me."

I remember when the first Arcana Heart came out, one of my friends that used to live here refused to play it because it was an all-girl cast.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I usually play fighters if I like the mechanics, not for the cast.

It's a mix for me. I have to like the aethetics and the system. As long as there's at least one likable char for me, (which is usually a viable deal) and the gameplay is pretty solid, I can be all for it.

<------Plays fighters for the cast. >.>

Though the gameplay does have to be at least enjoyable for me to really care about it. Main reason I can't stand to play certain big-roster fighters out there.

Ug umvc sucks on the ps3. So many frame rate issues I never had on the 360. So annoying.

Like RE5 or any MT Framework games on PS3, the game is triple buffered so rain or shine, it never tears. In the areas where the frame rate dips are noticeable on PS3, the 360 game tears (you may or may not notice it depending on how picky you are) while dropping far fewer frames so it works out well controller response-wise. Neither version stays close to the 60fps target unlike pretty much every fighter out there.

Dimps' has a far superior engine for fighters on their hand.

Never noticed any screen tearing on the 360 version. Just the same, people said RE5 was full of it yet I've only ever encountered screen tearing twice in my 970+ hours on RE5.

Not saying it doesn't exist, but, I've never seen it more than twice and it was so minimal and lasted for half a second that it never interfered with the game whatsoever. And again, never noticed it at all in UMvC3 or MvC3 for that matter either.

The frame rate problem on the ps3 one however, ug, it's such an eye sore.

I saw tons with RE5 myself but it's gotten better with the games after. I've probably saw tearing twice with LP2 for example, but either way, the DF face off does a nice comparison of the technical makeup of the original MVC3 (two pages):

Unless they change things considerably, the engine is a poor fit for fighters overall.

After playing UMVC3 for awhile, why does it feel like this game is even less balanced than it's predecessor?

I could at least keep up and outplay people with she-hulk and X23 and the like in the last one, but since she-hulk's nerfs, and trying new characters, all the ones I like are so lackluster!

Rocket Raccoon takes SO MUCH WORK to win with, and she-hulk just can't do crap against people like magneto, nova, hawkeye, etc etc.

And trish annoys me to no end. I roll my eyes everytime I see her picked now, it's like a 10-0 matchup for my team or something I swear.

Been running She-hulk, Rocket Raccoon, and Storm. My storm sucks tho...basically just use her as a clutch to spam supers for the chip damage. >_> Maybe if I find a third character with a good assist that will make me do better, but I just don't know.

I don't really know what to tell you, other than to learn stuff that that is proven to be overpowered.
I don't like using Wesker, but his assist is good and his ability as an anchor with XF3 is stupid, so he's found a place on one of my teams.

It's marvel man, use and abuse the broken shit, or prepare to put in a lot of work with the characters you like, especially if your fundamentals aren't solid. I know the feeling; I don't like dropping characters but sometimes when they don't work out, they don't work out.

Trish... yeah she's really underrated. She has great matchups against the 'top' characters, so I think she's a candidate for top 10. With the proper assists/setups she messes up Wesker, Spencer, Doom and Nova, to name a few. Most of the characters that CAN fight her have to use meter

I still don't get why they nerfed She Hulk the way they did. I hate fighting against her but they at least could have left her slide alone; that move is straight garbs now. But she's not terrible, just not great anymore.

MY suggestion is to watch this video, since it covers useful stuff for some of the characters you use.
