This is a surprising twist and a bit of a kick in the nads. 360 HD Collection patch is cancelled:

Wow. Yeah, I'll enjoy my original copies.

Even post patch, the PS3 version is still inferior to the originals so I don't think the 360 patch would've swayed you either way as a purist. Unless you really like achievements. Widescreen and 5.1 audio was sufficient for me.

It should be noted that audio sync (and some missing sfx), fog and glitches aside, the 360 version never had frame rate issues out of the box. By default, it was a better version.

The funniest, hidden part, of the ordeal has been the Dolby licensing issue. Out of the box, the PS3 game's 5.1 option had LPCM and Dolby but the first mandatory patch took away the latter. They were trying to save some money on licensing.

All in all, it's been a mess from day one, starting with Konami giving alpha code to Hijinx.

I'm guessing you're right about the Downpour ones too, between this and Vatra's likely fate - they aren't looking likely.

Yeah, unfortunatley Konami really dropped the ball here. They also screwed over 360 owners. It sucks to see a franchise like this get such crummy treatment.

^ Yes, because taking over an IP from its owner, which in this case is a multinational corporation, is as easy as taking candy from a baby

Good news though, they're offering one free game from a HUGE list for 360 SH HD owners, including the practically perfect MGS collection:

... granted you'd have to have purchased the collection before Aug 8.

I really don't care how they do it, burn down the Konami head offices if they have to. The fact is that Konami clearly don't have any interest or respect for the series anymore, Downpour flopped because they didn't market the game at all, and now they've tarnished two of the greatest games they've ever put out with this abysmal 'HD Collection'. They were building it up from beta codes because they 'lost' the final release codes! As soon as that became aware to them, the project should have been cancelled immediately, and now look where it has got them.

I really hope this scandal is the final straw, either sell the series to someone who will actually put some effort in trying to bring it back as a successful and respectful franchise, or kill the series entirely after the release of Silent Hill: Revelation.

They're not going to sell the IP, and even if they wanted to, it's not exactly a commercially successful one for any publisher to consider buying it. Retiring the series is best, unless:

Or a collaborative effort to bring it back from the dead or mediocrity like Castlevania LoS.
