I'm currently putting a feature together on this, will put it up here when i've got the press assets, but in the meantime...

What have we got? Valve (Half Life) and Turtle Rock Studios (Counter Strike) working side by side to create the sort of game perhaps Resident Evil: Outbreak should have been? A stupid ammount of zombies, chasing you and three other survivors (with the option of them being AI, or controlled by friends) through four different scenarios (free scenarios to follow shortly after release). Click here for a full hands on preview, it sounds incredible. Easily in my top three eagerly awaited games after all i've read in the past few days.

Definitely!

Check out the gameplay video too from the second link in the first post. I love the part where you reach a point with a ton of weapons, ammunition and first aid and you can all share it out with eachother rather than be selfish and take it all for yourself.

I've never ventured into online co-op (talking on the mic to complete strangers has never appealed to me), but i can see myself getting pretty addicted to this one!

And damn, those zombies are FAST.

Looks rather cool, even though I don't really play many shooting games.

I like how you move around in a team, helping others to get out alive.

Ive been waiting and waiting, and im still waiting for this game. i dont really like the idea of spending 40 bucks for an online only game but hey L4D looks freaking awesome. they should do an open beta soon.

I'm pretty sure it's offline too, with the AI taking over the three other survivors, but i think that would take away something from the game to be honest.

A few of the zombie levels from Half Life 2: Episode 1 (i think it was anyway?) have me even more excited for this game now having seen how well the Source engine can run dark, fright filled levels.

In the latest Games for Window magazine (issue number 13- December 07) they have a nice little preview of L4D in it. complete with fresh screenies. if i can get my scanner working i will scan the pages. its in the mag's top 10 games for 2008!!!!!

I actually do agree that it's a great alternative to Outbreak. If you were stuck in a zomie apocalypse that last thing you'd be worried about is puzzle solving, you'd be wanting to shoot your way out of the nightmate.

The game's AI director already means in Left 4 Dead you're going to need to work together a lot more than in Outbreak or else you're going to be ripped to shreds in no time at all!

If i had my way, the whole of the Resident Evil community would be all over this game, can see this being a great bonding experience before some of us get into co-op on Resident Evil 5...who knows, there may yet even be a 4 player bonus game on that when it comes! Definitely looking forward to the beta (which by the way, is just a glorified word for demo, let's be honest!) when it launches on 360.

If you have the choice, get the PC version though, you know it's going to be supported by Valve for a long time to come!

At first I was interested in this, waaay back when you first mentioned it on the Capcom forum. But now it just looks terrible...

But meh, I never liked FPSs anyway.
