The only thing they have left for me is Biohazard 6, otherwise it's a far different company than the one I grew up with cutting out Capcom Edge points and getting free thermoses.

Yeah, it really doesn't even resemble Capcom to me anymore.

The great majority of companies we grew up with don't resemble what we used to know anymore. Video Games used to be something entirely different before they became mainstream. Once they hit mainstream and became as common and profitable as movies and tv, corporations took over and now it's no longer about making a good game or making something beautiful, new, fresh, innovative and exciting. Now it's just about making money and nothing short of it.

Any business is always about making money, but, now more than ever, that's all most games are about. Square, Capcom, SNK, and tons of other companies I grew up loving are now to quote a game close to us all "A Mere shadow of their former selves".

It's sad, but, what can you really do?

All I know is I used to really wanna work in the gaming industry. But, after all the stuff I've read recently from various developers, producers etc. about how badly they're treated and how the companies run them dry like slaves, I'm not so sure I really care to get into it.

Whoa, SNK? You really feel SNKP is a "shadow of their former selves" because of kof XIII? If the only kof game out at this time were still XII, you know that I'd be in agreement with you 100%, but kof XIII receiving mainstream recognition and being inducted into MLG is definitely factual proof that the game is good. SNKP is definitely not in it for the money, as they returned to the series' old gameplay roots at the request of their hardcore players (not fans). Honestly, since reforming and becoming "SNKP", I believe their only bad games were kof 2003 and XII. All the Metal Slugs were still good (how could they ever make THOSE bad? lol) and kof had a rollercoaster ride. Going from '03 (bad) to XI (good) to XII (horrendous) to XIII (godlike). I think Samurai Shodown fell off from it's "glory days", but I think that's ONLY because so much emphasis is being put into kof these days.

I can admit, most definitely, it's not like it USED to be. Old school SNK was definitely better and at it's peak point pre-2000. But it's good enough in this day and age and more reminiscent of it's older days than pretty much any other company out there. They're at LEAST trying. Capcom on the other hand, forget it. They're lost. Bad fighters, screw jobs against Megaman, DLC scams, glitched games, etc... Like Yama said, Biohazard 6 is about the only Capcom related title I'm excited for. I'd cringe to even think about them touching Rival Schools or Darkstalkers and making new games from those series. They dumb down their games so hard to cater to a mainstream audience and for what? Money. Capcom's last good fighter was Capcom vs SNK 2.

@Jacko

Yes Snk is a shadow of their former selves to me. 13 may be a great competitive game that's fine and dandy. But the game lacks everything that made it so unique and fun to me that all kofs 2k and prior had.

From a tourny stance, 13 is the best kof to come out and makes snk look awesome.

But I wish they could have done that without sacrificing everything else in the process.

Honestly, the snk we know today is nothing like the snk of yesteryear. They're almost an entirely different company at this point.

Much like Capcom and Square. All of which I previously noted.

Why is SEGA not being mentioned in this? VF5FS is great and all, but it's one game. Look at AM2's track record and SEGA in general. The DC/Naomi line up within a year was better than the last ten combined. I miss unique titles like Cosmic Smash; a few ports, some decent publishing and one decent Sonic title isn't going to cover it.

Er, I did say

to be fair. I wasn't going to run through a list of every game company ever. The whole point was that most companies in general have changed over the years and are a mere shadow of their former selves to the point of being almost unrecognizable. They've all changed way too much. And very few for the better.

But, yeah, current Sega sucks. The only good thing they've done recently 'was' VF5:FS. Most of the rest of their stuff has been garbage or done in bogus ways like cutting out the DX content from SA and charging seperately for it, or charging ridiculously overpriced fees for a new track and metal sonic in Sega Sonic All star Racing. I can understand selling them as DLC ok. But, the prices they asked for for those 2 tiny additions were beyond ridiculous. If I recall they wanted like $10-$15 extra just for metal sonic and one new track. It was outrageous.

I hear ya'.

I think Sonic Generations is awesome, feels like it would be a launch title for a next generation console if they were to actually make one. Wish everything they put out was that heartfelt, but yeah.

Yea sonic generations wasn't perfect but by far the best sonic game in quite a long time. It definitely had a lot of thought and care put into it and I really enjoyed it.

But Sega is still overall dumb as of late.

Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza, nothing else.

Not necesarily. MLG did feature Halo 2 at one point.
