I enjoy them but they are terrible Resident Evil movies. If they had another name it could actually benefit them. No more comparisons to the games and its characters. It'd still be an action-horror B-movie with hollywood budget.

What I really don't like is that Alice gets all the attention/good scenes. They should give the rest more screen time and good scenes too. When things like this happen (a Mary Sue/Gary Stu as protagonist) it immediatly loses any credibility nor you can feel sympathy for the character. This is what I don't like about the movies the most, oh and the close-to-none character development.

What about you guys?

Everything you've said basically. It's always Alice that has to save the day and being the only one allowed to kill non-zombie BOWs and the Big Bad of the movie. If the established game characters are going to be brought in, have them contribute to the film and not just be there for the gamers to look at.

They are simply shit movies in general, game-based or not.

Their struggle for existence is over for the time being.
But a sin violating sanctuary isn't forgiven.
This is not just an end.
This is the end of a beginning.

Anderson's blatant disregard for the fan base is what irks me. He can say all he wants about being a fan but he had a vision for Resident Evil that was clearly not related to the games in any shape or form. Having it called Resident Evil was simply a guaranteed way for it to make money, no matter how bad it was. I mean, why else would it be? Change Umbrella's name and omit the few references to t-Virus and Raccoon City in the first film and it could have been a totally original story and universe written and created by Anderson.

This and a blatant lack of knowledge of the series. If he had taken the time to research the story properly he could have realised there is a very interesting narrative there as opposed to the film we ended up with. All Anderson did was play RE1 and stopped at evil corporation and zombies - cool! The final straw for me was when his producing partner Jeremy Bolt claimed he knew for a fact that Capcom decided to set RE5 in the desert because of the commercial success of RE: Extinction, even though RE5 was already in pre-production two years before Extinction was released!

It was the same with AVP. He still believes Alien vs. Predator is a masterpiece because it made more money than any of the other films, including the recent Predators from last year.
The problem with this is that he thinks it is because his was the best film when in reality it all comes down to the franchise name and the timing of release.

Go back to 2004. We haven't had an Alien film for seven years nor a Predator film for 14 years. So on that basis, anyone with half an interest in science fiction is going to watch a film called Alien vs. Predator and so of course it will make money, no matter how shite it is.

The ironic thing about both AVP and the Resident Evil series is that they would be better films if they were not based on these franchises and simply his own work. He could have created his own evil corporation and put zombies in it. He could have created two original aliens and have them go at it in battle. If this were the case I'm sure they would have been much more warmly received but they would not have made half the money they have done.

Personally I think he is a competent director but there is no way he should ever be allowed near a pen, hence why I'd choose Event Horizon as his best film to date.

I despise his films due to the fact that he is capitalizing on the name alone... hell its no where near Resident evil in terms of anything else besides the names of characters and corporations and one city...

If you felt the earth shaking and heard a high-pitched whine when the new Resident Evil Movie was released that was just good old Wesker spinning in his grave like a jet turbine..

Apart from the fact they lack any character development or reference to the source material bar a few loose names?

Everything.
