Yuppers, just got back from the tourney! So I suppose here's a good place to talk about how things went.

Firstly those who showed up early were certainly one of the 32 players who got a shot. Every one was given the same Spec Ops and USS patches as before as well as the same USS pin. On top of that, a little red heart container with candy sporting the Gamespot logo. The first 32 were given colored bandanas to show their team affiliation to keep as well.

VERSUS MODE!
Versus mode was tons of fun and it was also a lot harder than it looked! I can't emphasize team communication and coordination enough. The first round of the tourney was in Team Attack, which is basically TDM. Grenades were THE go-to method for killing players, very effective. Special weapons that are unlocked in the stage itself have a huge damage rate. My teammate obtained the flamethrower and (with good distance) it annihilated the opposing team. Zombies are worth 25 points and enemy players are 75 with additional points given to brutal kills or executions. Right away a team strategy comes in handy. Getting a mixture of zombie and player kills will surely help secure more points right away. First team to reach maximum points wins or most points win when timer runs out. Our game was fairly exciting, neck-to-neck! Soon it was just a mad scramble in the last seconds to kill everything in our way to muster as many points as possible.

The second round was the capture the flag game type, securing viral samples. Now this too was more challenging than it looked in videos. First team to get all five back to their base wins or most vials obtained wins when the timer runs out. With zombies and a tyrant running around in the middle of the stage it made it very interesting. There's no one single route that's safe when obtaining vials and again, team work is all too important. Our team attempted a strategy to have our explosive member remain back at base with mines while three of us went forth to get the vials. But once the action hits things never go according to plan. I found the maps to be really big, so many nooks and crannies, it's easy for players to feel lost and get separated from the team. Especially when respawning. Unfortunately, our team lost this one.

The last round was Heroes mode! Horray! This mode looked so much fun! The heroes/villains characters take a TON of punishment and don't go down easily. Even when faced with several zombies and being melee'd by enemies, they can barely get down halfway in their life. But once they're killed the momentum shifts. Any heroes/villains killed - those players respawn with the Wolfpack/Spec Ops characters instead and have ordinary defenses. Infinite respawns here and the object is to kill off all the heroes/villains characters. Lots of fun and probably one of the longest game types to be played. Medic class is probably the most crucial here. Being able to boost-heal the whole team will help keep them alive longer.

So my team came in at third place! What was the prize? A little grab bag with a sticker that reads "zombie repellent" on a shotgun. Pretty cool. A glow-in-the-dark toy gun, the kind you find at a pharmacy as a last minute gift for some poor kid. Aaannd *drum roll* a DVD copy of the first RE movie. Second place I think got the same grab bag. First place however... lemme just say two of the same guys from the last winning team (who won the USS jackets) were part of this team too. DAMN! Argh. Ok, first place gets: A black Umbrella Corporation shoulder bag (kinda similar to the Tricell one) Inside the bag is a USS t-shirt, the same they handed out at the last event. They also get a poster I think, couldn't see what was on it. And each member received a $100 gift card to Best Buy. I overheard one of the Gamespot folks say they also get a free copy of the game, via a reservation at Best Buy? That's unconfirmed, I'm not sure.

The event itself was well done. There was a zombie couple walking around, a bride and groom. And as I understand they had a zombie wedding! Caterers in zombie makeup served up some mac n cheese balls, cupcakes, cake, and all sorts of treats! And I think there was a third station that was for casual versus play outside the tourney for other players.

I didn't run into any bugs and the game felt like it was finished, no negatives to really talk about. I thought I saw another invisible enemy bug when others were playing but, I can't say for sure.

So to sum up, versus mode is fun but highly competitive. It would be a typical TPS game but the zombies and other enemies make it very unpredictable. These undead foes keep you constantly moving and a horde can force you travel down a different path on the map. You might ask yourself do you take down the horde in front of you or conserve ammo for the enemy team? And although Heroes mode characters are just "alt skins/audio" for existing character types - it's still satisfying as all hell to be classic characters. The game types are also challenging, with maps so large it'll take a while to learn them. If you don't like the multiplayer side of things, then that you may dislike all of this. And I can understand that. I do wish there were other modes to play that weren't versus. Again, like GOW3's Horde/Beast mode. A game mode aside campaign that still team based but not competing against another team - that would nice. But so far the game continues to be addicting. Even other players arrived today with their doubts but after some game time they've been convinced to get it.

And that's it for all the ORC events! The only thing next is the game's release!

Played some of it at my friends house. According to what I have heard and what I played- PS3 version is the way to go. The environment is what got me, it's insanely breathtaking and BIG.Unfortunately, I get overwhelmed easily and that's what made me put it down. ^^'

You nailed it. Word of advice on the technical shortcomings with tearing and frame rate drops: manually put the game to 480p and performance is significantly better.

Those wondering if either version fairs better, neither do. I picked up the 360 version but it's a technical mess too so go with whichever controller you prefer.

It's not a view we haven't seen, it's just a completely different view.

Eh, you say PO-TAY-TO and I say PO-TAH-TO...

This thread is definitely delivering the laughs.

Lots of sales doesn't define a good product. If you don't understand this, all hope is lost on you. Though you're probably just trolling anyway. *shrug* Not one person has suggested that's the case though. That's just you jumping to assumptions about other people's opinions to mask the fact you don't know what it is you're really bleating about.

All adds to the thread though, so i should thank you really!

Well I want to bring up Revelations because you brought it up about the plot being shit so I'm interested as to why you think this is and some specific examples please.

Secondly, I have skim read this topic and I agree with many of your points about the marketing of Revelations being intentionally misleading for the sake of the plot. I also agree with your comments on Vester as we clearly don't know enough about him yet. As Newsbot said he is more than likely a villain however, some of his actions in the game do make you question this and I would put him in the same category as Ada for now. Like she did before him, he has delivered a dangerous viral sample into the hands of a dangerous organisation but again like Ada, this may not make him necessarily evil. The truthful answer is we just don't know for now.

However I'm in total agreement with the others on the importance of supplemental material and its relevance. And I also agree with them about the marketing for ORC being misleading.

Bottom line is Revelations marketing was misleading for the sake of the plot. ORC's marketing was just misleading in that the final product didn't have the content I was expecting.

And when I say skim read, it is because I am in the middle of a 16 hour shift at work as I type this.

Ive never liked resident evil plot's all that much. I like the simple one's better though. REV had a poor plot and it was confusing, or conservatively it was needlessly complex and stupid. ORC i only played once, it had a poor plot but wasnt confusing. I dislike how the series seems to demand the need for supplementary material to make "true" sense of the story and plot, and that includes in game files. I feel in 2012 i have played many a game which tells a consistent, good plot without them, and so should resident evil.

I didnt like either game. Im surprised ORC seems to boost sales. I dont remember the trailers from the two games, as they were forgettable, but you two seem to argue well.

Its 3:30 am and i cant sleep. halp me sleepbasedgod.

A lot of talk about Jill's bland portrayal in Revelations in the Unveiled Edition news thread, so I thought we should have a dedicated thread for this.

A lot of people who played this game had the similar view that you could replace Jill and Chris with anyone else, and it didnt even have to be a Resident Evil game. Somewhat true, Jill and Chris weren't tied to this story as heavily as they were with other Resident Evils. A developer interview that has popped up shows, though, that Jill was originally planned to have an ending that fleshed out her backstory a bit, something the main characters painfully need.

http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/45969/features/the-making-of-resident-evil-revelations/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=t.co

"Speaking of the storyline, we also made changes to the final scene of the game. In Episode 1, if you look out at the ocean you can see some land in the distance. This was originally going to be the setting of the finale."Jill would have found something from her past there, but now you have the ending we see in the finished game, which I won't spoil here, in case anyone reading this has yet to play the game."

(on a side note, maybe the tangent should be ripped from the news thread and merged here)

I will keep bragging about the book if you keep bringing it up.

I appreciate the compliment about it being magical though. It's not even out yet and you're fawning over it.

You know, this is going to sound really terrible, but I just realized I misread your post. My apologies! I thought you were saying that News Bot was the person feeding us information without sources, but I re-read it and finally realized what was really being said. My finger is off the "Nuke Stu" button - for now.

That said, the rule I stated earlier still stands for this thread. So let the friendly, loving debate begin.

So it's safe to say smiley will continue the circle here?

And I have a question for NB too. A simple Yes or No. Will there be any revelations in your findings about Ada's backstory?
Posted: Jan 28, 2013 4:06

Ikari, I really don't think that was necessary. It's been repeated in the last 10 pages and I told you all to drop it 5 posts ago. Can we move on, like right now?
Posted: Jan 28, 2013 14:25

It doesn't have to though. And you're more than welcome to help change that instead of the already said "Can't wait" or "going in circles" responses. I can't be the only one that sees similar posting from the complainers. Hell Spencer has been using the exact same gif.

I've no problems with the service, but at the end of the day it's just another DLC motif. Having incentive such as stat tracking, web exclusives, events-- encourages users to the point where it's "kill x number of times in Onslaught mode".

There's more underlying prodding to actually buy DLC than there ever was- so I wouldn't exactly call this a "gift" to RE fans. More like a chore. And like a chore, you get what you put into it.
Posted: Feb 18, 2013 22:31

The RE2 and RE4 we got were fantastic in their own way, which is why I'm not as enthusiastic.

I haven't tried RE1 on GBC yet either for that matter.

Maybe Capcom should have cancelled RE6 6 months ago and began anew for a next gen/end of 2013 release.
