A very valuable member of the S.T.A.R.S. bravo team, Richard served as the communications expert. He also supplied radio communication for the Alpha team since they had no true communication experts.

During the mansion incident, Richard discovered the room of a giant, poisonous snake named Yawn, which bit him. Poisoned and bleeding to death, Richard collapsed in the room outside Yawn’s den. Luckily, Jill Valentine was able to find him and search for a serum to stop the poison.

What happened next is unclear. In some reports, Richard died on the spot, while other reports claim he healed enough to get up and continue searching the mansion, only to be eaten alive by a huge Shark. Either way, Richard did not have much luck. His death was not in vain, however, as he managed to hand his radio to Jill, which later allowed her to contact a helicopter and escape the mansion.
