On paper Nicholai, was a sergeant in the U.B.C.S., but in reality he was sent by Umbrella to collect combat data from the squad's battle with the bio weapons. Coldhearted and ruthless, Nicholai would murder his team members one by one, making sure none of them would make it out alive, ensuring all the supervisors were dead so he would have more bargaining power when it came to his pay.

He also took the opportunity to cash in on the bounty put on all S.T.A.R.S. members, in this case Jill. Nicholai attempted to kill Jill while on a helicopter, but figured the impending missile strike meant she was dead anyway and instead flew off to complete another mission.

Nicholai was informed that a scientist at Raccoon City University had created a Tyrant of his own. Nicholai was ordered to retrieve a sample of the Tyrant’s blood and kill the scientist. He followed his orders with extreme precision, but it is not known if he made it out of the city before it was nuked.
