James Marcus

Marcus was the first general manager of the Umbrella Training Facility in Raccoon City, where Wesker and Birkin once trained. He was placed in charge of further developing the “mother virus” which he accomplished by creating the Progenitor Virus, a mixture of leech DNA and the mother virus.

Marcus became obsessed with his work and his leeches, and Umbrella became afraid of what he could be hiding. Wesker and Birkin were sent to kill Marcus and to take his research, and did just that.

Ten years went by before Marcus would return, appearing much younger, ready to exact his vengeance. He began by releasing the T-Virus in the Spencer Mansion, as well as his former facility. Marcus’s dead body was inhabited by the leeches he worked on, making Marcus part man, part leech, intent on the destruction of Umbrella, as well as world domination.

Rebecca and Billy became involved in Marcus’s plot and were the ones to destroy Marcus and the queen leech that was inside him. This ended the threat of James Marcus forever, but the impact of the events he set in motion would be felt for years to come.
