Chris joined the Air Force at a young age, only to be kicked out a short time after, becoming a drifter until he met Barry Burton, a cop recruiting for a newly formed law enforcement team, S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service). He and Barry got reassigned to a smaller unit at Raccoon City, under the command of Albert Wesker.

Chris became a seasoned veteran with S.T.A.R.S., possessing both intelligence and immense strength, skills he'd desperately need to survive the night of July 24, 1998, the night of the Mansion Incident.

Inside the Spencer Mansion, hordes of zombies filled the hallways, mutant creatures intent to kill him at every turn. Chris teamed up with one of the surviving members of Bravo Team, Rebecca Chambers, and the two of them battled through hell to uncover the truth behind the mystery of the mansion.

They discovered that it was their own leader, Albert Wesker, who had betrayed them. Wesker had been working for Umbrella and was using the S.T.A.R.S. team to collect combat data from the B.O.W.s. Wesker showed Chris his ultimate creation, the Tyrant, which then turned on Wesker, killing him. Chris managed to escape from the mansion along with Rebecca, Barry, and Jill, all their lives changed forever.

Chris and the other survivors returned to the R.P.D. with their incredible story, but no one believed them. Their story was dismissed as if they were delusional. Through some investigation, Chris discovered that Umbrella was working on another virus, the G-virus, and decided to go to Umbrella Headquarters in Europe to stop them, electing not to tell his sister Claire he was leaving, for her own safety.

A few months later, Claire found herself in a sticky situation, captured snooping around an Umbrella building and subsequently sent to an island prison run by the insane Alfred Ashford. Upon learning about his sister’s capture through a message from Leon, Chris quickly traveled to the island to rescue her.

To his utter amazement, Chris discovered that Wesker was still alive and out for blood. Wesker was no longer an ordinary human; he possessed super strength and speed. Chris managed to avoid Wesker’s attacks and fend off the unspeakable horrors of the island, eventually travelling to Antarctica where he finally saves his sister from another mutant Umbrella employee, Alexia Ashford.

As Chris was making his final escape Wesker found and cornered him. It is just the two of them, one on one, in an epic battle. Displaying extraordinary cunning, Chris used the environment around him to create a barrier between him and Wesker, giving him enough time to escape from the Umbrella base with Claire.

In the subsequent years Umbrella was disbanded, and no more horrifying incidents occurred. For Chris, however, his mission will never end until his nemesis, Wesker, is caught and brought to justice.
